Commissioned by Harvey Nichols, following our successful involvement with numerous alteration and re-planning projects in their Knightsbridge store, to prepare initial concepts for developing some 1960’s listed buildings plus several adjoining Victorian shop units to provide two floors of high quality retail space in Leeds. The scheme grew, in conjunction with the Clients confidence, to 45,000sq.ft of sales floor spread over five floors devoted to fashion wear, accessories, home furnishings and food. A dramatic four storey high, planar glass frontage was created with internal atrium providing a modern design statement with enticing views into the store acting as a foil to the adjacent Victorian facades. Working closely with Leeds City Planners and English Heritage, it was essential to retain as much of the listed facades and interiors of the Victorian Grade 2 units as possible which, when complete, won the firm a Civic Architecture Award.
